We are looking to recruit a Salaried GP to join our expanding friendly team at our two practices, one on the stunning Suffolk Coast and one a rural Practice on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

Overview

We are part of the SWAN Primary Care Network, sharing clinicians and resources to deliver the best care for our patients. Bungay Medical Practice and Sole Bay Health Centre provide high quality healthcare to patients across our sites.

Main duties of the job
  • Provides high-quality patient care
  • Conduct surgery, telephone and video consultations, plus occasional home visits
  • Liaise with colleagues and external providers to ensure seamless care
  • Investigate and refer patients appropriately, in line with guidance
  • Review results and correspondence promptly
  • Provide cover for colleagues when required
  • Collect and review data for audit and QOF purposes
  • Maintain excellent communication with patients and carers
  • Attend clinical, governance and educational meetings
  • Work collaboratively and effectively within the team
  • Manage your own workload and resources effectively
  • Attend required training events and feedback sessions
  • Report and follow up on significant events
About us

Bungay Medical Practice and Sole Bay Health Centre provide the highest quality healthcare to patients. We are part of the SWAN Primary Care Network, sharing clinicians and resources to deliver the best care for our patients.

  • 12 appointments per session - face to face, telephone calls and GP bookable only
  • Half day duty Doctor - on the day urgent care cover supported by skilled ANP team
  • Low GP visit numbers - Complex Care Team/Community Matrons who cover visits
  • Daily coffee break and weekly MDT meetings

Our teams consist of:

  • 4 GP partners, 1 Managing partner
  • 6 ANPs
  • 7 Nurses and 5 HCAs
  • Complex Care Team; 3 Community Matrons, 1 Paramedic and 1 Admiral Dementia Nurse
  • 2 Clinical Pharmacists and 3 Technicians
  • Experienced Dispensing Teams at both sites
  • Social Prescribers
  • Fantastic Reception/Admin/Secretarial Support
  • Teaching Practice for VTS/FY2s/Cambridge and UEA Medical Students
Job responsibilities
  • Provide high quality patient care including prevention, screening, treatment, management of chronic conditions and health promotion
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice protocols, as well as wider guidance eg NICE
  • Carry out surgery, telephone and video consultations and undertake home visits
  • Speak to and see patients promptly and in a timely manner, in order to minimise waiting times
  • Ensure appropriate follow up of patients
  • Generate, check and sign acute and repeat prescriptions, in line with Practice policy
  • Transfer patients, where appropriate, to the repeat dispensing system
  • Liaise with other team members and organisations involved in patient care and respond promptly to queries
  • Investigate and refer patients as appropriate, in line with current guidance
  • Deal promptly with results and correspondence, clearly communicating any actions that are required
  • Provide cover as needed, for all of the above, when other GPs are on leave
  • When providing care ensure the judicious use of resources and NHS funds
  • Keep clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes and patient records to agreed standards and in line with Practice policies
  • Collect data for audit and QOF purposes
  • Prescribe generically whenever appropriate and in accordance with the Practice formulary, commissioning and national guidance
  • Maintain high levels of communication with patients and carers to ensure effective delivery of care
Other day to day responsibilities within the organisation
  • Awareness of, compliance with, all relevant Practice policies/guidelines e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety
  • Commitment to achieving high quality standards such as QOF, prescribing targets and other performance indicators
  • Contribute to clinical governance processes including significant event reviews
  • Commitment to lifelong learning, audit and evidence-based best practice
  • Contribute to evaluation and audit within the practice
  • Attend and contribute to clinical, governance and educational meetings
  • Share workload effectively with colleagues
  • Assist with training of staff and education of doctors and nurses in training as appropriate
  • Develop positive collaborative working relationships with partners and team members
  • Liaise with relevant agencies to promote knowledge of services in the practice and local community
  • Complete patient reports promptly
  • Take responsibility for personal development and participate in GP appraisal
  • Raise concerns about health or performance of colleagues as appropriate
  • Contribute to team effectiveness by reflecting on activities and suggesting improvements
  • Alert team members to quality and risk issues
  • Manage own time, workload and resources effectively
  • Review practice-related emails and respond promptly
  • Take responsibility for audits and for targets and services allocated (e.g., QOF, Enhanced Services)
  • Support the Practice Manager with complaints or governance issues, ICB/NHSE related issues
  • Contribute to developing new areas of work and improving services; attend team meetings
  • Attend required training events and feed back key learning points to the team
  • Report Significant Events involving the Practice
  • Manage own health and stress; alert partners if health issues may impact performance

Qualifications
  • Vocationally trained and accredited GP, preferably MRCGP; current GMC registration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and with limited supervision
  • IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care systems (the Practice uses TPP SystmOne)
  • Strong team player; good understanding of GMS contracting and QOF
  • Not subject to suspension; currently on a performers list and accredited with MRCGP
  • Competent user of TPP S1
Experience
  • In Practice as a General Practitioner/Locum Practitioner or ST3
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary teams and working to QOF standards
  • Experience supporting service changes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Imaginative problem solving and provision of enhanced services
  • Proficiency with TPP S1
