Are you an enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills looking to develop your skills within safeguarding? If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced nurse, AHP or Social Worker to join our safeguarding team as a Safeguarding Nurse / Safeguarding Officer.
You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
This is a varied and rewarding role for hard working individuals who can demonstrate passion and commitment to safeguarding. You will assist the Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults to deliver proactive safeguarding services, ensuring that all adults at risk of harm are effectively safeguarded.
You will need to be flexible and able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of safeguarding issues within a busy acute hospital, community setting and the wider health economy.
You will be required to work across all sites, working closely with the Safeguarding Children's Advisors to promote a culture of Think Family.
The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and thus a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be necessary to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Main duties of the jobYou will be required to work across all Trust sites and partner agency sites, including Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital and Durham Road Children's Centre.
As a Safeguarding Nurse / Safeguarding Officer at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) you will:
- Hold a supportive role in promoting good professional safeguarding practice within the Safeguarding Team at STSFT.
- Be a highly visible Safeguarding Nurse / Safeguarding Officer and support the Safeguarding Adult Advisor and Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults (and wider safeguarding team across STSFT) in providing advice and support regarding safeguarding within the Trust.
- Support the delivery of training and supervision.
- Support the Safeguarding Advisor / Named Nurses and other members of the team with statutory, voluntary and healthcare agencies meetings such as CARM, MARAC, MATAC, MAPPA, PREVENT and MSET / PREM.
- Support with collection and collating of safeguarding audit data.
- Participate in regular audits to ensure assurance can be given that care delivery from a safeguarding perspective adheres to STSFT policies and procedures as well as national legislation and statutory guidance.

Job responsibilitiesHold a supportive role in promoting good professional safeguarding practice within the Safeguarding Team at STSFT. To be a highly visible Safeguarding Nurse / Safeguarding Officer and support the Safeguarding Advisor and Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults (and wider safeguarding team across STSFT) in providing advice and support regarding safeguarding within the Trust. To support the Safeguarding Advisor in ensuring all staff have access to safeguarding training and supervision to their role, enabling the organisation to fulfil its statutory responsibilities for training. Support with collection and collating of audit data. To support and facilitate the delivery of safeguarding group supervision for staff. To support the Safeguarding Advisor / Named Nurses and other members of the team with statutory, voluntary, and healthcare agencies groups such as Multi Agency Public Protection Agency (MAPPA) requests, Prevent requests, Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) and Missing Sexually Exploited and Trafficked (MSET) / Partnership Reduction Exploitation and Missing (PREM) research including attendance at local meetings. To support the MCA/DoLS Advisor with Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) advice and support to STSFT staff. Person Specification Skills and Knowledge- Thorough understanding of contemporary issues appropriate to the post.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of legislation and National Guidelines that drives safeguarding adult policy and practice.
- Knowledge of current professional and Clinical Governance issues.
- Evidence of relevant continuous professional development.
- Knowledge of and participation in research and/or clinical audit.
- Evidence of being up to date with current issues and research in specialist area.
- Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages.
- Clinical leadership and organisational skills
- Able to work without supervision.
- Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships and interpersonal dynamics.
- Time management and ability to prioritise own workload
- Counselling and appraisal skills.
- Current NMC registration (Level 1 adult nurse, children, mental health, Learning Disability) or HCPC registration (AHP) or Social Work England (Social Worker) registration.
- Degree in nursing studies or health / social care related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
- Evidence of further study in safeguarding adults and children
- Mentor certificate/Practice Assessor training / PEAP certificate or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Management and leadership training.
- Safeguarding supervision course
- Relevant post registration experience of working with adults, children and families adopting a Think family approach, including participation in adult safeguarding procedures.
- Evidence of practice development and quality improvement.
- Experience of change management and innovation in practice.
- Evidence of being able to manage own workload.
- Experience in the development of others.
- Demonstrable experience of working within a safeguarding role or transferable experience within the acute / community setting.
- Participated in safeguarding supervision
- Car driver with access to a car
