ROLE DESCRIPTION - Room 10 Buddy, CCHU Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
About this role: Must Be 25 or over
At Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, we have a simple vision - Safe and Compassionate Care Every Time. Volunteers help to enhance the patient experience and complement the work of paid members of staff.
Volunteer Room 10 Buddies give time and companionship to patients while having chemotherapy treatment. Our buddies sit with patients and listen to any worries and concerns that patients may have and provide emotional and practical support. They help making drinks and serving lunches and they signpost to other services as needed.
Commitment: A minimum of one 3- or 4-hour shift per week.
Monday late morning early afternoon
Tuesday & Wednesday between 12-4pm
Friday Morning
What are the key tasks?
- Having a cup of tea and a chat
- Giving practical advice about the hospital environment
- Showing companionship during time having chemotherapy
- Listening to any worries and concerns
- Providing emotional and practical support
- Signposting to other services
What isn't expected

X Administer medication or provide intimate care

Essential requirement/commitment:
- Volunteers must be over 18 years of age.
- All Volunteers will require a DBS check.
- Participation in the training relevant to your role and confidential discussion of any reasonable adjustments required to meet your needs.
