Job Description

The Base Metals Senior Risk Officer role is a member of the risk team, leading and delivering pnl and position analysis to Management and Front Office. The role reports to the Risk Manager.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Analyze, model, and report market risk for all trading activities. Assess and monitor physical and financial trades. Analyze mark-to-market valuations, risk positions, basis changes, curves, volatilities, and P/L results daily.
  2. Manage daily production and reporting of P&L, positions/exposures from trading systems, pnl attribution.
  3. Manage daily checks and trade integrity completeness between desks and trading systems.
  4. Develop and maintain risk reporting/analytics to communicate position, P/L, and market risk to traders and management.
  5. Coordinate and review deals and prices in trading systems by performing deal checks, price validation, curve updates, and data reconciliation. Monitor timely deal capture, internal trading limits, and risk policy compliance.
  6. Provide critical thinking around risk reporting processes, quantification, and analysis of commodity exposure and forward price movements.
  7. Maintain, enhance, and review risk models. Test new risk calculations, evaluate model assumptions, and suggest improvements for better valuation and risk quantification.
  8. Communicate effectively with Front Office, Operations, Trade Support, Finance, and IT teams on inputs and assumptions.
  9. Work closely with Traders to quantify and explain risk sources in their portfolios.
  10. Contribute to reporting Trading Results/Positions to senior management and translate trading results into accounting monthly.
  11. Prepare reports and analysis for internal and management review.
  12. Coordinate with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal & Compliance to ensure control practices, operational efficiency, and policy compliance.
  13. Collaborate with Compliance to meet regulatory requirements.
  14. Support process improvements, including system testing and desk-level procedures.
  15. Identify operational risks, define mitigation measures, and set priorities.
  16. Perform month-end and year-end reconciliations with finance and external auditors.
  17. Train and mentor Junior Risk Officers.
  18. Support other Risk Officers as needed.
Profile
  • University degree, preferably in Computing, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or Finance.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role within the commodity trading industry, ideally with exposure to base metals.
  • Experience in Crude trading operations is highly preferred.
  • Curious, proactive, rigorous, and meticulous.
  • Strong Business Analysis skills and understanding of risk management methodologies and valuation models.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools and technologies, especially Microsoft Excel and Python.
  • Eager to learn, able to work independently, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Excellent attention to detail, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English; French is a plus.
  • Knowledge of quantitative risk analysis is advantageous.
