Retail Area Manager

Multi site role within Bury St Edmunds

At St Nicholas Hospice Care, our shops are part of a retail team that generates an income of over £1 million to support our services for people and their families living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses. Our shops are located across West Suffolk, including our online shop and Donations Centre. They support the local community and signpost to Hospice services.

Following a restructure to increase the net profit contribution of our retail operations and support our long-term financial sustainability, we are implementing a new retail strategy focused on maximising the profitability of donated goods. This involves rethinking how we collect, price, and process items to ensure every donation delivers maximum value.

We are recruiting a Retail Area Manager to oversee key sites - our Donation Centre, Barton Road Shop, St John's Street Shop, and our Ecommerce department. This new role involves leading a team of experienced Shop Managers and volunteers, motivating and supporting them to achieve sales targets, gift aid, and providing high-quality customer service as well as an excellent donor and volunteer experience.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have proven experience managing a diverse team of staff and volunteers across multiple business streams
• Have a track record of achieving sales targets, managing after-sales, and controlling expenditure for good ROI
• Be a people-focused, supportive, and empowering manager who encourages team potential
• Have a passion for charity retail, be target-driven, and innovative
