The Role

Newcastle University invites applications for a Research Software Engineer to develop and deploy machine learning solutions on edge computing platforms.

In this role, you will be responsible for integrating, optimizing, and deploying machine learning models on resource constrained devices, ensuring real time processing capabilities.

You will collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver scalable, efficient, and robust edge AI solutions that can function reliably with limited connectivity and power constraints.

This role is part time for 25 hours per week for the duration of 3 months.

  • Design and implement software pipelines to deploy ML models on edge devices with real time inference capabilities
  • Optimize machine learning models (e.g., quantization, pruning) for edge hardware to balance accuracy, latency, and power consumption
  • Integrate edge AI solutions with sensor data streams and device hardware
  • Develop observability tools for monitoring model quality, drift, and system health on deployed devices
  • Write clean, efficient, and well documented code with comprehensive testing
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in edge AI frameworks, hardware accelerators, and deployment strategies
Qualifications
  • The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Candidate must have experience in using LiDAR data for autonomous vehicles or an equivalent application
  • Candidate must have knowledge of Deep Learning Architectures and Training
  • Candidate must be able to program in Python
  • Candidate should have experience working in the industry
  • Candidate should have skills of presentation, communication, and working in team
  • Candidate should have skills of report writing
  • Candidate should have skills of research methods
