About us

At Dyson we are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention and be unafraid to make mistakes. We are proud to be authentic, different and pioneers. We are driven by a desire to solve real problems and improve everyday lives with intuitive solutions that do more but use less. Family owned, we are not restricted by conventional thinking; we explore, discover and learn for ourselves. Never satisfied, we believe everything can always be made better.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Engineer to join the highly successful Motors and Power Systems team within the Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. Within this team the successful applicant will be working on the early stage research and development of our future Dyson Digital Motors (DDMs) and other intricate electromechanical assemblies, which may include battery packs, heaters and actuators, for example.

We are seeking candidates who are adept at both independent work and collaborative endeavours within multifunctional teams, showcasing exceptional team-working abilities. The ideal candidate should demonstrate adaptability and efficiency as a problem-solver, employing a flexible approach with meticulous attention to detail when required. Additionally, the ability to swiftly adapt to changing priorities and projects in dynamic research environments is highly valued.

Other responsibilities include:

Contribute significantly to shaping and refining new motors and power systems from their initial research phases to detailed development.

Innovate and create mechanical designs from scratch, moving from concept to practical demonstration, encompassing prototyping and rigorous testing. Ensure designs are optimized for large-scale production and automated/semi-automated assembly (DFM and DFA principles).

Devise inventive and technically robust solutions to intricate multi-physical challenges.

Leverage personal engineering expertise while collaborating closely with experts in various engineering domains.

Employ systems thinking and established design processes to efficiently generate and document design concepts. Support the definition of structure, detailed design, and validation of novel motors and power systems.
