The RDU Research Administrator plays a key role in ensuring the effective administration of research across 4 clinical research specialties:

The RDU Research Administrator delivers key research functions, provides administrative support to the team and coordinates a range of improvement projects and initiatives - including supporting screening and maintaining study records on the Trust's Electronic Patient Record System EPIC (Apollo) system.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide ongoing administrative support to the RDU Matrons/ Managers
  • To use Oracle the Trust procurement system to request purchase orders and subsequently organise payment of invoices with accounts payable
  • To provide support for archiving of commercial and non-commercial clinical studies according to GCP guidelines
  • To arrange and host monitoring visits for sponsors, regulators, Trust Quality and other relevant stakeholders.
  • To provide the administrative support for communications material, such as preparation of updates, placing adverts and notices, liaising with central R&D Communications
  • To manage the eRoster system for the relevant RDUs

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To facilitate recruitment to research related posts within the RDUs using the TRAC process

To coordinate a range of varied R&D projects and improvement initiatives, including support the coordination of the International Clinical Trials Day and other ad hoc events

  • To update study information on the EDGE database including patient recruitment numbers
  • Log Trust research incidents and coordinate incident response. This might include coordination of serious breach investigations
  • To signpost researchers to the relevant departments to aid set up and delivery of research
  • Prepare the relevant documents required when submitting trial protocol and paperwork for regulatory review and approval. Assist in completing submission to the REC, HRA and R&I Department.
  • Process amendments and disseminate information to relevant departments

Person specification Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise judgement when dealing with inquiries
  • Ability to prioritise; to be organised and flexible. Able to effectively accommodate ad hoc demands to existing workload
  • Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative
  • Ability to concentrate even with frequent interruptions and unpredictable working patterns.
  • Interest in research
Education and Qualifications
  • GCSE A-C grade in English or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional development e.g. courses (in administration, project management) or further education.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of working in an administration / coordinator or office management role.
  • Research governance experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with an effective and courteous telephone manner.
  • Previous experience in the NHS or in a Higher Education setting.
  • Previous experience with archiving research projects.
