Research Assistant/Associate (Statistics)
Centre for Trials Research (CTR)
College of Biomedical & Life Sciences

The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is a large, multinational community of researchers, professional services staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
We tackle the big diseases and health concerns of our time by forming partnerships with researchers and building lasting relationships with the public. Find out more about the Centre and working with us here.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a UKCRC-registered trials unit as a Research Assistant (Grade 5) or Research Associate (Grade 6) in Statistics. Appointments will be made based on successfully demonstrating the relevant experience for the grade. Please make it clear which grade you are applying for in your application and make sure that your application addresses the relevant criteria outlined in the person specification for that grade. The Centre for Trials Research currently hosts the largest statistical team in Cardiff University and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of studies which involve wide variety statistical methods. The post holder will contribute to the design, management, analysis publication and dissemination of research.

With knowledge of the design and analysis of randomised clinical studies, multivariate statistical techniques, and the use of statistical analysis packages, you will have a good first degree with a major statistical component. You will require excellent IT and communication skills (written and verbal), and a proven ability to deliver research studies to a required deadline and quality. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice is required, as well as Data Protection and guidelines for the reporting of high quality studies. This position would suit an individual with a willingness to learn, and the ability to motivate others and communicate statistical ideas to non-statisticians.

For informal queries, please contact Prof Rebecca Playle (Director of Statistics) .

With a culture of continuous professional and career development the Centre has an excellent track record of helping people develop in their areas of interest, with many progressing within the Centre itself, the wider University or further afield.

This position is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term and available from 1 September 2026 until 30 September 2029. However, this post is subject to a review process and may therefore be extended (or converted to open-ended).

This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. The University is committed to offering this flexibility, wherever the role and business need allows, supporting work-life balance.

Salary:

£33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade 5) or
£41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6).

Cardiff University offers many excellent benefits, including 45 days annual leave (incl. bank holidays), local pension scheme, a cycle to work scheme and other travel initiatives, annual increments within the pay scale, and more. It's an exciting and vibrant place to work with many different challenges and is a proud Living Wage supporter. Business needs will require some degree of office-based working but the balance of time can be spent in the office or remotely (subject to agreement with the line manager).
