We are currently looking for a Requirements & Design Systems Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and development of advanced motion control systems used in flight simulation and structural testing for aircraft, automotive, and defense applications. Operating within a dynamic and highly specialized engineering team in the Leiden Area, the role is ideal for professionals who enjoy working on complex, multi-disciplinary systems in an international context.
The Systems Engineering team plays a pivotal role in shaping both customer-specific and internally developed solutions. This includes defining system concepts, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components into cohesive, high-performance systems. The role provides exposure to a wide range of technologies and applications, from precision simulation platforms to full-scale structural testing systems.
In addition to the technical challenges, the role involves ongoing collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle. This includes participation in site visits, acceptance testing, and solution implementation abroad. The working culture is open, collaborative, and quality-driven, with an emphasis on technical excellence and long-term customer partnerships.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of integrated mechatronic and electro-hydraulic systems tailored to customer specifications and industry demands.
- Translate customer and market requirements into system concepts using methods such as Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Requirements Management, and industry standards, including CE directives.
- Participate in both customer-specific projects and internal R&D initiatives to expand the solution portfolio.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering disciplines to ensure aligned, high-performing system designs.
- Support the full system lifecycle, from conceptual design to factory assembly, commissioning, and on-site Site Acceptance Testing (primarily in France, Germany, and Italy).
- Maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation throughout the development process.
- Represent the company in customer interactions during the development and implementation phases, acting as a key technical ambassador.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Aeronautical, Automotive, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of mechatronic systems.
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink for system modeling and simulation is essential.
- Experience leading engineering efforts in both customer and internal development projects.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools, CE regulatory compliance, and FMEA methodology.
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or German is considered an asset.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a friendly, open, and technically rigorous work environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for project implementation and customer support (approximately 10%).
- Comfort with or openness to contributing to projects that support the defense sector.
