Job Description

Due to the Testing Development Programme (TDP) there is a requirement for an additional Regional Testing Manager within Testing Manchester.This role will support one of the two workstreams within the TDP as well as share the BAU work for the day to day running of the department.It is an exciting opportunity to support the implementation of the new Testing contracts.NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) saves and enhances lives. Main duties of the job

Main duties of the jobIn this role you will be required to manage the Regional Testing Department by:Co-ordinating and delivering an efficient, cost effective, high throughput Testing Service, serving a range of stakeholders over a wide geographical area.Ensuring regulatory compliance by monitoring all associated systems and processes ensuring that any failures are analysed and corrective action is initiated and validated in a timely fashion.Providing leadership, developing and managing a multi-skilled, diverse and flexible workforce, of appropriate skill mix, capable of meeting the challenges of a dynamic testing environment.Managing the budget and physical assets of the laboratory ensuring optimal utilisation of all resources and meeting financial targets.You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice. You will also be required to participate on on the Critical Incident Manager rota which will include an on-call out of hours rota which may include evening, weekend or public holiday working to cover for On Call.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist which must be maintained
  • MSC or equivalent in transfusion / transplantation or relevant science OR equivalent specialist knowledge gained by examination of a professional body eg FIBMS, British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS), British Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics(BSHI) OR equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)

Experience
  • Significant leadership and management experience .
  • Experience of chairing meetings
  • Thorough understanding of working to the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Laboratory Practice and Total Quality Management
  • Knowledge of transfusion science
  • Experience in driving Continuous improvement and developing a Lean culture
  • Experience in financial management and budget control
  • Experience of participating in audits, validation and development projects
  • Demonstrate effective motivation, influencing, persuading and negotiating skills
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint
