Job Description
UKR Group is looking for an experienced Regional Design Manager to start ASAP in Reading, Berkshire.
The Regional Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating design activities across multiple projects within a specific geographical region. This role will ensure that design outputs meet client expectations, comply with regulatory requirements, and align with company standards. The position involves close collaboration with design teams, project managers, consultants, and contractors to deliver high quality, cost effective, and innovative design solutions.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the design function across regional projects from concept through to completion.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of design documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and consultants.
- Ensure all designs adhere to relevant British Standards, building regulations, and company quality assurance procedures.
- Manage design risks and change control processes, ensuring timely communication of impacts on cost and programme.
- Support bid and tender processes by providing design input, technical advice, and value engineering solutions.
- Monitor design progress, performance, and delivery against project milestones and budgets.
- Facilitate design reviews and ensure that all design deliverables are completed to the required standard.
- Champion innovation, sustainability, and best practice within the design process.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to design teams across the region.
- Strong leadership and management abilities, with experience in coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough understanding of design management principles, processes, and tools.
- In depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and modern design technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modelling).
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities with a focus on practical, efficient solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines.
- Attention to detail, with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project cost control.
- Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Chartered status (e.g., RIBA, ICE, or CIOB) preferred.
- Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator within the construction or engineering sector.
- Demonstrable experience managing design across regional or multi site projects.
- Proficiency in design management software and digital collaboration platforms.
- Familiarity with CDM Regulations and relevant health and safety legislation.
