Role Overview:Our client is establishing a new, purpose-built nursing home on a greenfield site in Galway and is seeking a creative and compassionate Recreational Therapist to lead a person-centred activity and wellness programme for residents.
This key role focuses on enhancing residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well being through meaningful engagement. The successful candidate will design, deliver, and evaluate a variety of therapeutic activities tailored to the individual needs and preferences of residents, supporting quality of life in a homely and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and manage a diverse and inclusive activity programme that promotes wellness, dignity, and joy among residents.
- Facilitate both group and one-to-one therapeutic recreation sessions, including art, music, exercise, games, storytelling, and reminiscence therapy.
- Encourage residents' participation in community events and seasonal celebrations, helping to maintain social connections and routines.
- Collaborate with nursing, care, and therapy teams to integrate recreational plans into overall care strategies.
- Assess residents' interests, abilities, and limitations in order to develop personalised activity plans.
- Maintain detailed records of participation and outcomes, contributing to care planning and regulatory documentation.
- Promote a warm, welcoming environment that supports residents' independence and self-expression.
- Source, manage, and maintain supplies, equipment, and external resources as required.
- Support the development of volunteer involvement and family engagement in recreational activities.
- Qualification in Recreational Therapy, Social Care, Occupational Therapy, or a related field.
- Experience in a healthcare or residential care setting is highly desirable.
- Ability to plan, organise, and facilitate a wide range of engaging activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a caring and empathetic approach.
- Creativity, energy, and adaptability to meet the changing needs of residents.
- Knowledge of the ageing process and therapeutic interventions for older adults, including those with dementia.
