Job Title & DetailsGP Receptionist
Location: Pelsall Village Surgery
Reports To: Practice Manager
Job PurposeTo provide a professional, efficient, and friendly reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, nurses, and other members of the primary healthcare team. The post holder will act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring excellent customer service and effective communication at all times.
Job responsibilities- Greeting and assisting patients and visitors in a professional manner
- Booking, cancelling, and rearranging appointments using clinical systems
- Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries
- Managing repeat prescription requests following practice procedures
- Updating and maintaining accurate patient records
- Handling confidential information in line with GDPR and NHS policies
- Processing incoming and outgoing mail, emails, and documents
- Liaising with GPs, nurses, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals
- Signposting patients to appropriate services and support
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient reception area
- Supporting administrative tasks and general office duties as required, including document workflow, surgery tasks, none clinical admin and support for secretarial and clinical team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good IT and keyboard skills
- Ability to work in a busy environment and manage workload effectively
- Professional, calm, and empathetic manner
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Previous reception or customer service experience
- Experience working within a GP surgery
- Knowledge of NHS clinical systems such as EMIS and Docman
- Worked with in a GP surgery before.
- Customer service experience, primary care exposure
- Monday AM or PM
- Tuesday Open (8.00 - 12.00)
- Thursday off
- Friday close (13.00 - 18.30)
Hours to be agreed in line with practice requirements, including flexibility to cover holidays and sickness where necessary.
