Radiotherapy Researcher

Join us at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, working in partnership with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, to form one of Europe's largest and most influential cancer centres. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Therapeutic Radiographer or a therapeutic radiographer with clinical and/or dosimetry experience to join our Radiography Research Unit. This two-year fixed term Band 7 post, with part time working considered, is ideal for an individual who is keen to develop their research skills and build experience with a view to leading research in the future. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic and supportive research team, gaining hands on experience in the design, delivery, and translation of research into clinical practice. This role will enable the post holder to contribute to meaningful improvements in radiotherapy practice and patient outcomes, while developing the skills and confidence required to progress towards research leadership locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust with its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) comprises the largest Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Europe, employing over 3,300 scientific, clinical and nursing staff with an annual joint budget of £400million. • 2.1.1 Able to work autonomously in all areas of practice related to Applied Health Research.
• 2.1.2 Liaise with senior and lead radiographer researchers to design, conduct and analyse research
• 2.1.3 Ability to design and prepare research protocols in collaboration with other researchers or independently as the principal investigator.
• 2.1.4 Ability to design data collection tools and use data collection databases.
• 2.1.5 Ability to support the patient before, during and after the research study, ensuring study protocol followed.
• 2.1.6 Ability to collect and accurately record data as per study protocol.
• 2.1.7 Ensure principles of reliability and validity are adhered to throughout duration of research project, and act as champion for these values.
• 2.1.8 Able to design data analysis frameworks for qualitative research and undertake in-depth analysis of qualitative data.

Person specification Educatiom / Qualifications

• HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer (requires BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent accredited programme)

Experience

• Experience with the implementation of complex technologies/trials in radiotherapy
• Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical setting
• Working in the field of patient and public involvement and engagement
• Evidence of report, data entry and data management

Skills/ Abilites/ Knowledge

• Understanding of clinical trials and regulations governing clinical research
• Excellent IT skills including Access, Excel and Powerpoint
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to guide junior researchers, students, or collaborators, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
