Quantitative Trader - 2027 Summer Internship
Posted 3 hours 1 minute ago by Tum International Gmbh
Our goals are to give you a real sense of whatit's like to work as a Quantitative Trader atJane Street while also providing a trulyunparalleled educational experience. You'll bepaired with experienced quantitative traders whowill teach you how to identify market signals, analyse and execute strategies, constructquantitative models, conduct statistical analysis, and build trading intuition.
At Jane Street, the lines between research, technology, and trading are intentionally blurry, and you'll have access to petabytes of data, acomputing cluster with hundreds of thousands ofcores, and a growing GPU cluster containing tensof thousands of high-end GPUs. We don'tbelieve in "one-size-fits-all" modellingsolutions; we are open to and excited aboutapplying all different types of statistical and MLtechniques, from linear models to deep learning, depending on what best fits a given problem. You'll work closely with two different mentorson projects relating to their day-to-day work, giving you a sense of the variety of problems wesolve every day. Past projects have includedanalysing new or existing datasets, trainingpredictive models, simulating potential newtrading strategies, writing tools that we use inproduction, and even working to answer big-picturequestions we haven't yet figured out.
During the internship, your work is reinforcedwith intensive classes, workshops, and team-basedmock trading sessions. These will expose you tomany of the dynamics we observe in real markets, illustrate the role that we play in making marketsmore efficient, and help build intuition for howwe think about both trading and collaborating.
As a quantitative trading intern, you'll alsohave the opportunity to participate in one"elective" based on your interests.Electives consist of targeted classes andimmersive activities, and are designed to give youa deeper and more nuanced look into one of themany aspects of what quantitative trading can looklike at Jane Street:
Machine Learning, Modelling, and DataScience
You'll learn how Jane Street applies advancedmachine learning and statistical techniques tomake models and predictions using large datasetsof both real and simulated market data. You'lllearn how to train and use a variety of ML models, and gain an understanding of the differencesbetween textbook machine learning and itsapplication to noisy and complex financialdata.
Algorithmic Trading and MarketMicrostructure
You'll learn the end-to-end process ofdeveloping an algorithmic trading strategy. You'll analyse market data to develop atradable fair value and implement a tradingstrategy in Python. Your algorithmic strategy willconnect directly to simulated markets withdifferent market structures, and you will learnhow to optimise your strategy given the uniqueattributes of each market. You will discover howvarious market dynamics affect strategy behaviourand learn how real-world trading differs fromsimulation.
Trading Strategy and Scenarios
You'll be introduced to a rotating set of newtrading scenarios inspired by real events on aparticular trading desk. You'll work in teamson multiple mock trading sessions related to eachscenario and use the time between sessions torefine your strategies, write recaps, and hear howthe story played out in real life from ourseasoned full-time traders who lived throughit.
About you
If you've never thought about a career infinance, you're in good company. Many of uswere in the same position before working here. Ifyou have a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems, wehave a feeling you'll fit right in. We'remore interested in how you think and learn thanwhat you currently know. You should be:
- A strong quantitative thinker (no specificdegree or major is required)
- A clear and effective verbal and writtencommunicator
- Someone who enjoys workingcollaboratively on a team
- Eager to ask questions, admit mistakes, and learn new things
A profitable trading strategy is only as strongas the technology it runs on, and we considerourselves as much a technology company as atrading firm. General programming experience is aplus, but knowing a particular programminglanguage is not required.
