Job Summary The Quantitative & Risk Analytics (QRA) team at Barings is seeking a Senior Associate to support ESG analysis for Barings public and private portfolios. This individual will partner closely with portfolio managers, product managers and sales teams to provide regular and ad-hoc ESG analytics and reporting. In addition the analyst will contribute towards the design and maintenance of quantitative ESG overlays supporting mandates with specific ESG integration requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an ESG data vendor or a quantitative ESG role in an asset manager. Comfort with manipulating large data sets and experience of Python, SQL, Excel, PowerBI or similar are required. Additionally the analyst will have knowledge of regulatory ESG frameworks such as TCFD, SFDR, TNFD etc. Some knowledge of fixed income investment markets is also desirable together with being comfortable with liaising with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority in the firm. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in sustainable investments and desire to apply that in financial markets.
Primary Responsibilities- Oversee the monthly ESG analytics production run
- Responsibility for providing monthly and quarterly ESG analytics and data to investment teams and clients
- Contribute to client meetings and presentations on Barings EGS capabilities
- Develop ESG portfolio overlay strategies to support client objectives such as decarbonization mandates, including analysing impacts on the market opportunity set
- Build and improve analytical tools, dashboards and screens, to better incorporate ESG analytics into the investment process
- Liaise with data vendors over data issues and incorporating new data sets
- Partner with data, technology, and platform teams to improve data quality and automate recurring analytics
- Degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related quantitative field
- 2+ years of relevant experience in an ESG data role, ideally at an ESG vendor or asset manager
- Demonstrated ability to work with and manipulate large ESG datasets
- Ability to interpret and explain portfolio ESG metrics to investment teams as well as to less technical audiences
- Ability to work functionally with data and code, such as Python, SQL, PowerBI, Excel or comparable tools, to analyse data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ESG concepts clearly and confidently
- Demonstrated judgment, intellectual curiosity, ownership mindset, and ability to independently drive analysis from problem definition through stakeholder communication
- Familiarity with buy-side risk and portfolio analytics platforms, such as Aladdin, Refinitiv, Bloomberg, MSCI ESG Manager or comparable tools
- Working towards or interest in pursuing CFA, CFA sustainable investment certificate or other industry qualification
