Job Description

Are you experienced in quality engineering centered around quality control and continuous improvement? As a Quality Surveillance and Improvement Engineer, you will be required to focus on supporting and enhancing the quality of work on-site through mentoring, training, and surveillance.

Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Bylor is pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high-quality construction on a massive scale. Bylor has already broken the UK record for the largest continuous concrete pour of 9,000m 3 of concrete. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic organization that is challenging the industry and making history.

As a key stakeholder in all quality-related activities in the main civil works package, this role will be full-time and site-based. You will need to interact daily with site delivery teams and the client organization.

As a Quality Surveillance and Improvement Engineer, you will be required to complete surveillance in targeted areas, identifying where support is needed for site personnel. You will ensure that Quality Control is implemented, maintained, and improved within these areas, engaging in initiatives that lead to the successful, sustained improvement of quality systems and product delivery.

Additionally, you will carry out surveillance on high-risk activities such as Post Tensioning, Active Anchorage, Halfen Channel installation, and precast and prefabricated works, ensuring all processes and Quality Control measures are adhered to.

This role is key to maintaining the company's reputation for high-quality work. Vigilance, collaboration, and dedication are crucial to the success of this position. The role involves being a proactive member of the "Joint Quality Improvement Team (JQIT)," led by the client organization.

Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities:

  1. Ensure routine inspections are carried out by site delivery teams in line with the ITP requirements.
  2. Monitor works to identify emerging quality defects or issues and assist with providing solutions, escalating as appropriate to avoid defects (latent and otherwise).
  3. Validate site quality inspection records to ensure thorough checks have been carried out and documented correctly.
  4. Carry out inspections on suppliers' products as required.
  5. Conduct surveillance/inspections on subcontracted products and/or works as required.
  6. Review products and materials to ensure compliance with standards, procedures, and methods of working.
  7. Work with the QC Support team to identify support needs and ensure support is provided.
  8. Demonstrate technical knowledge through mentoring and improving the quality culture on site.
  9. Display exemplary quality behaviors aligned with HPC core values and quality commitments, acting as a role model.
  10. Collaborate with technical and delivery teams to improve inspection procedures and processes, contributing to continuous improvement.
  11. Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing re-work and achieving zero defects and right-first-time delivery.
  12. Ensure all work and inspections are performed safely, acting immediately on unsafe observations.
  13. Stay updated with procedures, methods, and technology to maintain high standards.
  14. Review reports, ITPs, and LTQRs competently and effectively.
  15. Assist in delivering targeted quality improvement training, including competency assessments and trade testing.
  16. Perform any reasonable tasks requested by management.
