Job Description
Overview

Manpower is recruiting an interim Quality & Laboratory Technician on behalf of a global FMCG Ice Cream client. This is a full-time temporary position (9 months, with the possibility of extension) based at the Barnwood site in Gloucester. Working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Start date as soon as possible (maximum two weeks notice). Salary: £28,800 per annum, pro rata.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Quality & Laboratory Technician to join a busy Quality team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Although the role sits within the Quality Laboratory, it is not a laboratory-based position and laboratory testing forms only a small part of the responsibilities. The majority of time will be spent on quality investigations, reporting, product assessments, supplier and quality support activities, sampling from across the factory, and collaborating with different departments to ensure products meet required quality standards.

This role is suitable for a recent science graduate or someone with some laboratory or quality experience looking to develop a career in Quality within manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect product, raw material, water and environmental samples from around the factory.
  • Carry out visual inspections of finished products and packaging, identifying and reporting quality issues.
  • Support investigations into quality incidents, product defects and customer complaints.
  • Record, analyse and report quality data accurately using internal systems.
  • Assist with product testing and sample preparation where required.
  • Arrange external microbiological and chemical testing and record results.
  • Support blocked stock administration and shelf-life assessments.
  • Help maintain laboratory equipment, including routine calibration checks.
  • Assist with internal quality audits and maintain accurate quality documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory stock and consumables are maintained.
  • Follow site quality, food safety and health & safety procedures at all times.
  • Work closely with Production, Technical and Quality teams to help resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
  • Degree qualified in a scientific discipline.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Proactive with a hands-on approach and able to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and learning new computer systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience within a laboratory, quality or manufacturing environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • This role suits someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable working across both office and factory environments, and is looking to build a career in Quality rather than a traditional laboratory testing role.
