Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within HMP Altcourse to join our Prison Psychology team as a Forensic Psychologist.

As the Forensic Psychologist, you will lead and develop innovative initiatives, including the development of a psychologically led unit and enhancing multi-disciplinary collaboration to support our prisoners.

You will support a team of Forensic Psychologists in Training, manage caseloads, and maintain direct contact with prisoners with complex needs, including those with early life experiences contributing to personality difficulties and serious offending.

We welcome candidates with prior experience in prison settings, but we will also consider those from the Forensic Mental Health field. Newly qualified candidates demonstrating insight into the role's demands and a commitment to developing relevant skills are encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job
  1. Manage and supervise Forensic Psychologists in Training and engage directly with prisoners.
  2. Support and supervise staff handling complex cases.
  3. Complete Parole Reports and conduct assessments (HCR20, PCL-R, IPDE, SARA).
  4. Perform forensic assessments, develop treatment plans, and contribute to psychological interventions.
  5. Collaborate with the Psychology and Interventions team, prisoners, and the wider prison community.
  6. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings within and outside the prison, communicating effectively with stakeholders.
  7. Lead and develop Offending Behaviour Programmes (OBP) with psychological oversight.
  8. Provide training on behaviour management, personality disorders, and complex case formulation for effective prisoner management.

Job responsibilities

You will be the line manager for a team of Forensic Psychologists and Psychologists-in-Training, supporting their caseloads and maintaining contact with prisoners with complex needs, including personality disorders and serious offending histories.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • HCPC Registered Forensic Psychologist.
  • Knowledge of psychological theories related to personality disorders, violent behaviour, and neurodiversity.
  • Experience in administering and interpreting psychological assessments.
Experience

  • Knowledge of working with individuals with personality disorders, violent behaviour, and neurodiverse needs.
  • Experience in psychological assessment practices.

Salary: £58,000 per annum, depending on experience.
