Our client is a well-established and growing supplier to the Irish construction sector, with a strong market position across building products, hardware, builders' merchants and roofing.
The business represents a portfolio of leading international manufacturers and has built a strong reputation for product quality, technical expertise and customer service.
Based from the company's Dublin headquarters, this is an important senior appointment with responsibility for leading the Purchasing function and ensuring the effective management and availability of stock across the business.
The RoleThe Purchasing Manager will lead and develop the Purchasing Team, with overall responsibility for stock planning, supplier management and the continued development of purchasing policies, controls and processes.
Working closely with commercial, warehouse and logistics teams, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained while improving stock turn, reducing aged inventory and supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, developing and motivating the Purchasing Team.
- Maintaining and strengthening relationships with existing suppliers.
- Managing stock levels and forecasting future requirements in line with commercial demand.
- Reviewing stock accuracy and resolving discrepancies as they arise.
- Improving stock turn and implementing measures to reduce aged inventory.
- Developing and strengthening purchasing controls, procedures and reporting.
- Driving the effective use, maintenance and continuous improvement of SAP within the Purchasing function.
- Managing supplier deliveries and addressing discrepancies between purchase orders and received stock.
- Coordinating with commercial, warehouse and logistics teams to maintain product availability and service levels.
- Managing transport arrangements with hauliers and supporting the timely delivery of orders into the business.
- Identifying and delivering continuous improvement initiatives across the Purchasing function.
- Supporting product development activity and supplier engagement as required.
The successful candidate will be an experienced purchasing professional with a strong understanding of stock management and a track record of leading an effective purchasing function.
They are likely to offer:
- Approximately five or more years' experience within a purchasing, procurement, supply chain or inventory management leadership role.
- Previous experience leading, developing and motivating a team.
- Strong supplier relationship management and negotiation capability.
- A practical understanding of stock planning, forecasting and inventory controls.
- Experience working with ERP systems, ideally SAP.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work effectively across commercial, warehousing, logistics and other business functions.
- A proactive and detail-focused approach, with a track record of improving processes and ways of working.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to operate independently while contributing effectively as part of the wider management team.
