Overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Pupil Support Officer to join our fantastic staff team at Pirniehall and make a difference to the lives of our children and families. Pirniehall Primary School serves the community of West Pilton and is part of the Craigroyston Learning Community. In Session we have 263 children across nine classes and a 24 place nursery. Most children live in Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation deciles 1 to 5, approximately one half require additional support with their learning, one fifth have English as an additional language, and around forty percent of pupils in P6 and P7 are entitled to free school meals. The school receives additional funding to improve the attainment, health and wellbeing of children and the community.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively as part of the school team to provide targeted support to pupils across the school environment, 1:1 or in groups.
  • Help pupils to regulate, resolve difficulties, and return to and sustain engagement in learning.
  • Use a nurturing and restorative approach to promote wellbeing, inclusion, and positive behaviour in line with the GIRFEC framework.
  • Lead the breakfast club and support positive relationships and safe play in the playground during break and lunchtimes.
  • Provide consistent, child centred support and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment for all pupils.
Qualifications & Conditions

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of three months or more outside the UK in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. These checks must be satisfactory before an unconditional offer can be made.
