Job Description

Cardiff iswell-known as a city of parks and green spaces, and this is your opportunity to help in shaping their future as part of a small but dedicated team of Community Park Rangers to manage and promote the natural environment within our public green space network.

About the job

As a member of a dynamic team, reporting to the Conservation and Community Development Manager you will engage with local communities and volunteers in supporting the promotion and management of the natural environment within parks and open spaces, nature reserves and woodlands and working with partner organisations to deliver community focussed outdoor environmental activities.

This temporary post is funded by Welsh Government's Local Places for Nature grant scheme, enabling areas of highest deprivation or those with least access to nature in Wales, such as urban communities, to restore and enhance their local nature.

Working alongside the Local Nature Partnership Coordinator, the post-holder will support the delivery of projects funded through the Local Places for Nature grant and support the work of the Cardiff Local Nature Partnership to promote the value of nature recovery.

What We Are Looking For From You

You will need to be driven, flexible and adaptable in what will be a challenging role where priorities can change quickly. You will need to be confident in engaging with people from a wide range of backgrounds, be able to support events, environmental education and other conservation activities.

You will also require excellent organisational skills, and an ability to communicate with people at all levels. You must be IT literate. Above all, you must have a "can-do" attitude, be able to solve problems under your own initiative, and be able to initiate and prioritise your own work to react to the demands of the team.

This post is temporary until 31st March 2027.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.

Owing to the nature of the role, the post-holder may be required to work outside of normal hours including evenings and weekends as required.
