GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber, and security agency with a mission to keep the UK safe. We use cutting-edge technology, ingenuity, and partnerships to identify, analyse, and disrupt threats. Working with our intelligence partners MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from terrorism, cyberattacks, and espionage. At GCHQ, you'll do varied and fascinating work in a supportive and inclusive environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
We manage a diverse range of projects, spanning business change initiatives, IT infrastructure delivery, software development, and capability enhancement. While some roles may involve leading technical projects, a technical background is not a prerequisite. Depending on your team's focus, you might be responsible for overseeing project planning and implementation, supporting technical delivery, or driving organisational change. Across all areas, you'll collaborate with stakeholders at every level-including partner organisations, suppliers, and customers-serving as a trusted adviser throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Some Project Managers work independently, while others contribute to multi-disciplinary teams. You'll be part of a collaborative, learning-focused community, where a range of impactful projects means every day brings something new. The role calls for adaptability, effective leadership, and a commitment to ongoing development.
You don't need any formal project management qualifications. However, you need 4 GCSEs including Maths and English Language at Grade 4/C or above or equivalent experience demonstrating solid numeracy and communication skills, along with 12 months experience in a project-related role. A background in planning, risk, issue, and financial management-as well as reporting and stakeholder management-is essential. This is a role where collaboration is key. You'll build relationships, work closely with colleagues at all levels, and prioritise continuous learning for yourself and others.
We're committed to helping you fulfil your potential. We'll work with you to identify any training or development opportunities that would benefit you, and you'll have access to mentoring, coaching and invitations to monthly networking forums. You'll also learn Agile project management techniques and receive support to become a member of the Association of Project Managers.
Ours is an open, inclusive workplace where you'll find a range of sport, interest, and social clubs, as well as a number of growing affinity groups- including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, wellbeing, mental health, neurodiversity, and disability groups, LGBTQ+ support groups, and faith/no faith communities. We also offer full-time and part-time working options in this role to help support your work-life balance.
