Job Description

Are you an electrically skilled technician looking for a role where your work directly supports a nationally important mission? If you enjoy practical problem solving, working with both old and new equipment, and being part of a supportive team, this could be the next step you've been waiting for. This position sits within the Maintenance team at Oldbury, supporting preventative and reactive electrical maintenance across the site, supporting the existing electrical system and any new plant and equipment that comes online.

What will you be doing?

You'll be part of an experienced maintenance team delivering safe, reliable and compliant electrical work across the site. Your day to day role will involve hands on technical tasks, problem solving and contributing to investigations when issues arise. It's a role for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork and keeping operations running smoothly.

You'll carry out electrical maintenance within your competence, support colleagues across a range of activities, and help ensure we meet our health, safety, environmental and quality commitments. Knowledge sharing is encouraged here, so you'll also play a part in supporting others as they develop their skills.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Delivering planned and reactive electrical maintenance
  • Assisting with fault investigations and resolving issues safely
  • Working within defined procedures, standards and risk assessments
  • Sharing expertise to support team learning
Who are we looking for?

A strong electrical background is essential, ideally gained within an industrial or similarly technical environment. Practical experience, sound judgement and the ability to work safely with complex systems will be key to success in this role. A collaborative approach and confidence working within structured procedures, while still using initiative, will also be important.

A Level 3 electrical qualification or equivalent experience is required, alongside the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (C&G 2382) and City and Guilds Inspection and Testing qualification, both of which are essential. Older but relevant qualifications such as ONC, City and Guilds 236, 2360 or 2330 are equally recognised and valued. Strong technical fundamentals are expected, including the ability to read electrical drawings and carry out effective fault finding.

You'll thrive in this role if you can:

  • Apply your electrical skills confidently and safely
  • Work well in a team and communicate clearly
  • Follow technical procedures while contributing ideas for improvement
  • Support colleagues through knowledge sharing and collaboration

Additional experience such as IPAF or MEWP licences, working with cranes, or knowledge of motors and associated systems would be beneficial, but not essential.
