Job Description
Overview

Probation Services Officer works with medium and lower risk offenders, managing a caseload before and after sentence. You will assess risk, implement sentences, support offenders, and produce reports.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence.
  • Assess and manage risks and provide information to courts.
  • Work closely with agencies throughout the justice system.
  • Provide practical advice on housing, employment and other support to help offenders turn their lives around.
  • Produce clear, accurate reports within tight deadlines.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
  • Empathy, patience, resilience and strong organisational skills.
  • Experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties is preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to produce concise reports.
  • No degree is required; personal qualities and experience are most important.
Salary and Pay Progression

Starting salary £26,475, with annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF). New entrants join at the minimum of the pay band.

You must have the legal right to live and work in the UK. The role is not eligible for the new Skilled Worker visa after 22 July 2025; those who already held a Skilled Worker visa before that date may apply.
