Principal Transport Planner - Overview

With the team expanding, this role presents an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver high profile, sustainable transport planning projects, while supervising and mentoring a growing team within a multi disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities
  • Spearhead and deliver complex transport planning projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction
  • Provide strategic transport advice on assessments, master planning, policy, and sustainable travel solutions
  • Oversee technical reporting including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Construction Traffic Management Plans, and EIA inputs
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop integrated transport strategies
  • Manage and mentor transport planners, supporting their development and ensuring delivery excellence
  • Contribute to business development through proposal writing, client relationship building, and opportunity identification
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, industry standards, and internal quality assurance
  • Champion innovation and stay current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in transport planning
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, or related field (postgraduate qualification desirable)
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status (e.g. CIHT, TPS, ICE)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Proven experience leading transport planning projects across multiple sectors
  • Strong background in transport modelling, policy, and assessments
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in relevant tools such as GIS, CAD, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign (a plus)
  • Skilled in technical reporting, project management, and public consultations
  • Knowledge in areas such as Active Travel, Bus Priority, LCWIPs, Public Realm, and Urban Design would be an advantage
