As a Principal Scientist, Intertek is currently recruiting for a highly experienced and technically accomplished scientist to join their expanding team in Melbourn. Due to sustained site growth and increased programme complexity, this is a senior technical leadership role within our cGMP laboratories.
This role is suited to an individual who can confidently lead complex investigations, influence technical direction and help shape high standards of scientific excellence across the laboratory.
You will operate as a trusted technical authority, playing a visible role in strengthening capability and mentoring the next generation of scientists.
Required skills and experience- Advanced IT literacy with strong capability in complex data evaluation and interpretation
- Exceptional numeracy skills with the ability to critically analyse, trend and interpret analytical data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confident engagement with clients and senior stakeholders
- Extensive knowledge and practical application of scientific methodologies, GMP standards and Quality Management Systems
- Significant experience within a cGMP pharmaceutical laboratory, including leading complex deviations, investigations and change controls
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety standards, chemical handling and COSHH
- Degree level qualification within a relevant scientific discipline or substantial industry expertise within a regulated pharmaceutical environment
- Highly customer focused, confident representing technical expertise externally
- Deep technical expertise in chromatography techniques such as HPLC and/or GC, including method development, validation, troubleshooting and data interpretation
On a daily basis, you will act as a senior technical authority within the laboratory, leading complex analytical programmes and supporting the wider team in delivering high-quality, compliant results within a GMP framework.
This role offers the opportunity to influence technical standards, enhance investigation capability and contribute strategically to the continued growth of the Melbourn site.
Key activities- Provide advanced technical leadership across multiple analytical platforms
- Lead and resolve complex investigations, implementing robust root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Take responsibility for small to medium programmes of work, including planning resources and ensuring delivery against timelines
- Mentor and develop team members, strengthening overall laboratory capability
- Engage directly with clients, confidently representing scientific expertise
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation within laboratory processes
- Organise and prioritise workload for yourself and others, maintaining compliance and performance standards
- Work priorities agreed with Laboratory Manager and Team Leader, operating with high autonomy and strategic input
