Safety Engineer

Role Description

• Work as part of an Integrated Development Team to develop and deliver submarine systems and capabilities.

Core Duties

Typical responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Ensuring Product Safety activities are completed across multiple systems supporting project milestones through all stages of the Engineering Life Cycle Management.
• Supporting Hazard Identification and Analysis studies.
• Assisting with or generating safety reports.
• Ensuring the team operates within the project Safety Management System.
• Liaising with other teams and safety groups.

Safety Responsibilities

The role holder must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and ensure high standards for SHE are maintained, including following instructions, reporting hazards, and using equipment properly. Refer to the Company Health & Safety Policy and Environmental Policy for detailed responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications Knowledge:

• Understanding of Safety and Systems Engineering and the Engineering Life Cycle Management.
• Experience working in a team and independently.
• Practical experience as a Product Safety Engineer in the maritime defence sector is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

• Ability to adapt to changing working practices and customer expectations.
• Self-motivated with strong communication skills.

Team Overview

This role offers insight into submarine operations and the Royal Navy's submarine capabilities. As a Product Safety Engineer, you will support system engineers in influencing submarine system and capability development, understanding system interactions, and ensuring product safety considerations are integrated.

The role involves safety management, hazard analysis, safety documentation, and continuous safety system improvement, providing a broad overview of a complex submarine system.
