Summary

Freedom Electrical Design is seeking a professional Principal Design Engineer (Overhead Line) to join our growing team. The role involves working on complex engineering projects contributing to the country's Net Zero targets. Projects cover the entire energy system, including generation, transmission, distribution, storage, and end-user applications.

This position offers a pathway to become the Head of OHL Design within 1-2 years as the company expands. The role starts at Principal OHL Engineer, aligned with our organizational grading and role naming structure.

You can be based in Leeds, Stowmarket, or London, with options for remote work. Travel will be required for client meetings, team collaborations, and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Freedom OHL design team, working with senior management to attract talent and opportunities.
• Manage all aspects of OHL design, including conductor sizing, insulation, lightning protection, line routing, PLS-CAD modeling, clearance checking, and structure design using PLS-TOWER or PLS-POLE.
• Produce technical documents such as reports, specifications, drawings, and calculations, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Prepare proposals, including scope, resource allocation, costing, and timelines.
• Communicate company goals to the OHL design team.
• Provide technical leadership and coordinate across projects and teams.
• Supervise the entire project lifecycle from concept to detailed design.
• Review final documentation for compliance with standards, health and safety, and client requirements.
• Develop processes and procedures to enhance technical delivery.
• Conduct quality checks and mentor team members.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• NGED TP141 accreditation.
• Experience leading OHL design projects at various voltages, including steel tower and wood pole structures.
• Knowledge of design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.
• Understanding of CDM 2015 and relevant electrical safety regulations.
• Full UK driving license.
