Description

Cornwall Insight is an award-winning provider of research, analysis, consulting and training to businesses and stakeholders engaged in the Great British and Irish energy markets. We are seeking a principal consultant to join our consulting team and work across our Great Britain and Ireland markets.

Whilst the role is advertised for our Norwich HQ, we are open to applicants who would rather work from our London office or remotely, with occasional travel to Norwich.

The principal consultant will drive business development and deliver high-quality consulting projects in the energy transactions space, focusing on the GB and Ireland markets. The role will combine hands-on project delivery with proactive business development and client relationship management, contributing directly to consulting sales targets in the energy transactions segment.

The role will collaborate closely with colleagues across consulting, go-to-market, and research teams to identify, secure, and deliver impactful commercial work, ensuring an excellent client experience and sustainable growth in the transactions area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead business development activities within the energy transactions and flexibility markets.
  • Hold a personal sales target aligned to the Principal Consultant level, contributing to overall GB/IRE consulting sales.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, investors, operators, and advisors active in transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for new products, repeat business, and client referrals. Foster collaboration with sales and marketing colleagues to support lead generation and account growth.
  • Lead delivery of consulting projects in the energy transactions space, ensuring quality, timeliness, and client impact.
  • Develop proposals and deliverables that reflect deep sector understanding and commercial insight.
  • Promote cross-selling opportunities for subscriptions and training to consulting clients.
  • Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, maintaining strong commercial discipline and client satisfaction.
  • Work collaboratively across consulting and with go-to-market colleagues to ensure joined-up account management.
  • Foster a strong relationship with the sales and marketing teams to ensure alignment on pipeline development and client engagement.
  • Contribute to improvements in consulting processes, pricing, and project delivery standards.
  • Support knowledge-sharing and mentoring within the team.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, events, and industry engagement that enhance Cornwall Insight's reputation in energy transactions.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform business development strategies.
  • Support improvements in tendering and proposal quality within your area of expertise.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Consulting and BD Expertise: Proven track record in business development and delivery of consulting projects within energy transactions, due diligence, or commercial advisory.
  • Client Management: Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to nurture repeat business and identify cross-sell opportunities.
  • Commercial Acumen: Understanding of energy markets, investment processes, and transaction drivers.
  • Execution Focus: A proactive, delivery-oriented approach - able to balance doing, selling, and advising effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate complex concepts clearly.
  • Collaboration: Team player who fosters cross-functional working across consulting, sales, and research.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to evolving client and market needs.
  • Demonstrable experience in consulting or advisory roles within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven ability to secure and deliver consulting work in the energy transactions or flexibility markets.
  • Strong understanding of GB/Ireland energy markets and transaction dynamics.
  • Experience engaging with investors, developers, and financiers in the energy sector.
