Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Midwife to provide specialised care to women and birthing people that are experiencing a multiple pregnancy, or are at high risk of preterm birth. The role is key to supporting the national goal of reducing preterm births and improving care quality and outcomes when preterm birth is unavoidable.

The role offers exciting opportunities to deliver holistic support and individualised care for these high-risk pregnancies by being part of the dedicated multidisciplinary team that are committed to delivering integrated, high quality care and advancing service development in preterm and multiple birth management.

You will be the point of contact for this cohort of women providing comprehensive antenatal care and education, ensuring timely , coordinated care provision including referrals to and tertiary or specialist centres as required.

You will coordinate the process for cervical cerclage insertion and removal, and provide support for those experiencing Preterm pre-labour rupture of membranes

You will work closely with Consultant midwife and Compliance lead to monitor Trust compliance with local and National recommendations to ensure we maintain high quality evidence based care.

You will provide training and share learning on your specialist subject to the wider maternity team

You will participate in the band 6 hospital on call rota providing support across the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a skilled practitioner responsible for providing antenatal midwifery care of those at risk of pre-term birth and/or have a complex multiple pregnancy to enhance the outcomes by providing specialist evidence - based care. They will work act as the key point of contact for this cohort within the Antenatal Clinic under the support of the Midwifery Lead for Antenatal Services.

They will work closely with the Preterm and multiple Birth specialist Obstetric Team to co-ordinate complex care within this cohort of patients by supporting the obstetric-run pre-term Birth clinics as well as independently leading midwifery-led clinics for this cohort. The aim of the service will be to reduce the risk of pre-term birth and improve outcomes for those babies that are born pre-term by providing, overseeing, embedding and monitoring all elements of perinatal optimisation.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Neonatal team to ensure that women, birthing people and families have multidisciplinary involvement in their care and options prior to birth.

They will take the lead on coordinating the process, and supporting the women/birthing people requiring insertion, or removal, of cervical cerclage and those with with preterm pre-labour rupture of membranes.

They will support the ensuring compliance element 2 of Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle by auditing outcomes, presenting reports and identifying areas for improvement.

Job responsibilities

Responsible for supporting and coordinating antenatal care for women and birthing people who meet the criteria for PTB Care Pathway or those with a multiple pregnancy, providing or coordinating additional care as required. They will work alongside the Obstetric Lead in Preterm and Multiple Pregnancy clinics.

Person Specification Experience
  • Band registered 6 Midwife with at least 2 years experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the Saving Babies Lives care bundle and BAPM guidelines
  • Experience in Audit and monitoring outcomes
Skills
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
  • Good understanding of health inequalities related to preterm birth
  • Ability to demonstrate motivation
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as a MDT
