Job Description
Main duties of the job
  • Processing repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols
  • Managing prescription queries from patients, pharmacies, and clinicians
  • Liaising with GPs and clinical staff regarding medication requests
  • Ensuring accurate data entry and record-keeping
  • Monitoring prescription inboxes and actioning requests appropriately
  • Supporting medication reviews and ensuring systems are up to date
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to data protection standards
About us

Brookvale Practice serves a population of approximately 8,700 patients and is based in Runcorn, Cheshire with excellent motorway links to Manchester, Liverpool, and North Wales.

We operate a Total Triage model, supporting safe, efficient, and timely access to care for our patients.

Our experienced and supportive clinical team includes:

  • 10 GPs
  • 2 Practice Nurses
  • 1 Nursing Associate
  • ARRS roles, including a Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, and Mental Health Practitioner
  • 2 GP Assistants (GPAs)
  • This is supported by 12 friendly and dedicated reception and administration staff.

You will be joining a welcoming and innovative team that values high-quality, patient-centred care. We are a well-established training practice, rated Good by the CQC following our inspection in November 2023.

Job responsibilities
  1. Support in the management of prescriptions request, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently
  2. Accurately detail information on patients records within the clinical system
  3. Process prescription requests received by any means of communication in accordance with practice protocol
  4. Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe
  5. Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within the required and expected timeframe
  6. Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items
  7. Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections
  8. Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require
  9. Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician
  10. Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintaining an accurate recall system
  11. Effectively liaise with external services, i.e., district nurses, to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients
  12. Initiate contact with and respond to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
  13. Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
  14. Undertake a broad spectrum of administrative duties commensurate with the role
  15. Be an integral part of the general practice team
  16. Undertake all mandatory training and induction programme
  17. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
  18. Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed.

Other requirements/wider responsibilities Qualifications
  • A good standard of education, with an expectation of having both GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (Level 4) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English
Experience
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of administrative duties and/or as prescription clerk
