We're looking for an experienced and compassionate Pre Assessment Nurse to join our outpatient and pre assessment team on a part time basis. This is a vital role supporting patients through their pre operative journey, ensuring they are fully assessed, clinically optimised and well prepared for elective surgery.

You'll work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons and the wider multidisciplinary team, playing a key role in promoting patient safety, reducing day of surgery cancellations and delivering an excellent patient experience. This is a part-time role working 22.5 hours a week; 3 shifts a week.Typical shifts are 8:00 - 16:00 or 09:00 - 17:00.

What you'll be doing

As our Pre-Assessment Nurse, you will:

  • Undertaking comprehensive pre operative assessments for adult patients following surgical consent.
  • Taking detailed medical histories, completing clinical assessments and recording baseline observations.
  • Assessing patients' fitness for surgery and anaesthesia, identifying and escalating any clinical risks.
  • Requesting, reviewing and actioning pre operative investigations in line with protocols.
  • Supporting patients with clear information about the surgical pathway, fasting, medications and recovery.
  • Providing reassurance and responding sensitively to patient concerns and anxiety.
  • Coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and smooth surgical pathways.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and contributing to audit and service improvement activity.
What we'll look for in you

As a NMC registered Adult Nurse with post registration experience in an acute, peri operative or outpatient setting, you will also have:

  • Strong knowledge of pre operative assessment and peri operative risk.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make safe clinical decisions and manage workload effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with a calm, empathetic and patient focused approach.
  • Confident IT skills and experience using electronic patient records.
  • A flexible, positive attitude and commitment to delivering high quality care.
  • Desirable: experience in elective surgery, pre assessment, audit or service improvement.
