Job Description

We are looking a another member of our team towork as a Practice Nurse with a focus on high-quality specialist care forRespiratory & Diabetic Patients, based on the needs of the Practice population whichincludes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education. Key aspects of the role are the ability to be able to perform Spirometry to ARTP standards and the ability to initiate and manage Insulin therapy.

Interviews are planned to take place on the afternoon of the 2nd April 2026

Main duties of the job
  • Able to carry out clinical procedures, including but limited to: Routine Injections, Wound Care, ECGs, Removal of Sutures/Clips, Phlebotomy.
  • To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care to practice patients with a range of acute and non-acute Asthmatic , COPD and Diabetic conditions.
  • To assess, diagnose and treat Respiratory patients, developing individualised care, management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning. Ability to undertake Spirometry and initiate Insulin therapy.
  • Implement care plans, including requesting necessary tests, onward referral to other health care professionals and agencies, and follow up consultations where necessary.

We are a forward thinking Practice, with focus on high quality Patient care and have an appetite for trying new ways of working and employing the use of technology were possible. We have a well established team consisting of Healthcare Support Workers, Nurses, Doctors, Administrative Staff and Paramedics. Our recent patient survey results were above average for almost all categories.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Able to carry out clinical procedures, including butlimited to: Routine Injections, Wound Care, ECGs, Removal of Sutures/Clips,Phlebotomy.

To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical careto practice patients with a range of acute and non-acute Asthmatic , COPD and Diabetic conditions.

To assess, diagnose and treat patients, developingindividualised care, management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning.

Ability to undertake Spirometry, qualifies to ARTP level.

Ability to Initiate and manage Insulin therapy.

Implement care plans, including requesting necessarytests, onward referral to other health care professionals and agencies, andfollow up consultations where necessary.

Promote health and screening in relation to primaryprevention strategies.

Provide advice and emotional support to patients andfamily/carers for patients living with respiratory conditions, communicating inan empathetic way.

Be a clinical resource for patients, and the practiceclinical team, supporting developing knowledge and systems to improve health tothe practice population and local community.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of guidelines for bestpractice with competency in assessment and treatment of chronic respiratorypatients.

Participate in the critical evaluation to audit outcomes,or change in patient care practices.

Lead by example and action in relation to behaviour,attitudes, conduct and appearance.

Maintain accurate patient records, documentingcomprehensive data onto the clinical system, SystmOne.

Report and manage significant incidents and near missesin line with Practice guidelines.

Monitor and maintain stock levels and maintenance ofrespiratory equipment, ensuring resources are used in an efficient andsustainable manner.

Work in close partnership with colleagues and externalagencies, to develop care management plans and improve health outcomes.

Maintain QOF targets appropriate to the Patients seen.

Contribute to the preparation of any Practice developmentplans. Work towards further improvement and development of patient servicesrecommending areas for change.

Actively participate in the delivery of training forstaff in Respiratory care contributing to their professional and personaldevelopment.

Complete all mandatory online training relevant for therole.

Work safely always in accordance with Legislativerequirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.

Adhere to and maintain patient confidentiality andinformation governance at all times.

Ability to undertake Practice Nurse Duties includingECGs, Dressing, General Observations & Phlebotomy.

Meetings

It will be necessary to attend andcontribute to various Practice meetings as requested. The only reason for notattending will be annual leave or sick leave.

ProfessionalResponsibilities

Promote the welfare and safeguarding ofchildren, young people and adults. Recognise professional and statutoryresponsibilities in the reporting of safeguarding, Deprivation of liberty andPrevent concerns.

Ensure appropriate measures are in place toprotect self, other staff and patients in minimising and dealing with exposureto patient or environmental risk e.g. infectious diseases, harmful substances.

Raise unmet needs and service shortfalls withthe Operations Manager, and provide constructive ways in which clinicalservices can be maintained and improved.

Participate in the practices annualappraisal scheme.

Participate in clinical supervision andtraining for staff in Respiratory care.

Maintain own continuous professionaldevelopment and ensure mandatory training and personal development plan is keptup-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice.

Maintain registration with the NMC and therevalidation process.

Maintain ARTP Registration

Practice within a legal and ethical frameworkthat adheres to the NMC Code and local policies and procedures.

Attend and participate in staff, QOF andClinical Governance meetings as required.

Protect personal and confidential informationof patients, colleagues and visitors to the Practice and abide by thePractices Data Protection and Information Governance polices at all times.

Training andpersonal development

Training requirements will bemonitored by yearly appraisal and will be in accordance with practicerequirements. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by thePractice. It is the individuals responsibility to remain up to date withrecent developments.

EssentialRequirements of the Post.

Ableto undertake Spirometry to ARTP standards.

Ableto initiate and manage Insulin Therapy.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • ARTP Qualification in Spirometry.
  • Accredited learning in Asthma, COPD and Diabetes Management.
Experience
  • Experience of working at a senior level in Respiratory and Diabetes Care
  • Experience of working in General Practice
  • Able to undertake additional Practice Nurse duties (Phlebotomy, ECG's, Dressings, Observations).
