Postdoctoral Scientist Neurobiology Dr Albert Cardona LMB 2298
Posted 3 hours 29 minutes ago by Findauniversity Ltd.
Salary £42,694 per annum. Fixed term, 3 years. Position located at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK.
The role is to work within Dr Albert Cardona's group on a programme aimed at studying the neural circuit basis of behaviour. Specifically, to map the synaptic wiring diagram (connectome) of whole insect brains, using machine learning approaches to computer vision on species such as Drosophila melanogaster and other drosophilids.
To compare connectomes across experimental conditions, developmental stages, strains or species, we must first measure natural variability by mapping connectomes across multiple individuals and statistically quantifying individual differences. The candidate will conduct a research project applying new automated approaches to connectome mapping at scale to many insect larval brain volumes.
Ideal candidate will have a PhD (or be due to complete within 6 months) in neuroscience or in a related field such as physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a quantitative biology programme within a computational group. The research project broadly meets the scope of connectomics: bioimage informatics applied to large scale volumetric densely labelled data for circuit mapping and analysis, or to neuroscience data such as neuronal activity imaging, monitoring, behavioural tracking, or transcriptomics of neural tissue.
We are offering a three year training and development position suitable for recent doctoral graduates or those looking to move into a new research discipline. The position will be fully supported by world class scientific facilities and a collaborative working culture.
Benefits include: a holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days), a defined benefit pension scheme, employee discount scheme, and opportunities for training and development support. Further details about benefits are available on the UKRI website.
The role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa. Immigration costs can be reclaimed from UKRI after taking up the post (terms and conditions apply). Final appointments will be subject to pre employment screening.
Closing date: 17 May 2026.
We actively support equality, diversity and inclusion in all our activities, processes and culture. We encourage applications from all sections of society, and the LMB particularly welcomes women, minority ethnic and disabled candidates to apply for this vacancy as they are currently under represented.
