Post Doctoral Researcher in Functional Genomics

£36,636 rising to £39,906

Full Time, Fixed Term - Researcher

The Centre for Functional Genomics is recruiting a fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher in Functional Genomics for 18 months starting as soon as possible.

The overall purpose of the role is to lead an ambitious, BBSRC funded project which aims to establish a biological resource to enable the in depth study of transcription factor function in Drosophila by generating and injecting a collection of plasmids to allow the CRISPR mediated endogenous tagging of all Drosophila transcription factors with an exchangeable epitope.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborating closely with the line manager and other team members on the research project to establish a collection of transgenic Drosophila lines with tagged transcription factors.
  • Designing transgenesis constructs and assisting with their molecular cloning, as well as generating transgenic fly strains.
  • Performing immunostains on different Drosophila tissues and confocal imaging of the samples to analyse transcription factor expression patterns.
  • Populating and maintaining a database with imaging and binding profile data.
  • Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts for publication and presenting data at conferences.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Genetics, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or equivalent.
  • Experience with general molecular biology methods, especially molecular cloning.
  • Experience with the preparation of scientific publications.
  • Good knowledge of Drosophila biology, eukaryotic gene regulation, CRISPR mediated transgenesis.
  • Experience in functional genomics techniques such as ChIP seq and/or CUT&RUN sequencing and the analysis of functional genomics data.
  • Experience in immunostaining and confocal microscopy.
