University Hospitals Dorset are looking to recruit a Porter & Security Officer to provide an efficient & effective service to all wards and departments within the hospitals, 24-hours, 7-days a week. As part of the Transformation of UHD sites successful applicants will be expected to transfer to Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 2026/27
Base Location: Poole Hospital/Royal Bournemouth
Interview Date: 2nd March 2026
Main duties of the job- Transport patients to and from various locations within the hospital in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner, ensuring the safety, reassurance and comfort of patients.
- Respectful removal of the deceased to the Mortuary and completion of the necessary entries in the Mortuary Register.
- Continual monitoring and replacement of gas cylinders to all areas.
- The daily collection of Pharmacy boxes from wards and departments for restocking and distribution.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy and safe environment for patients.
- Respond to requests to move furniture and equipment.
- Replenish medical gas cylinders in a safe and prompt way, ensuring that removals and changes are carried out safely.
- The delivery/collection of blood products, laboratory specimens and samples to/from wards/pathology using an electronic recording system as required.
- Collection of all waste clinical and non-clinical, segregated to the correct waste areas.
- Respond to alarm activations, security incidents and '2222' emergency calls to all Trust buildings and grounds.
- Apply appropriate Prevention Management of Violence & Aggression (PMVA) up to and including restraint techniques as situations dictate.
- Helicopter response.
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Person Specification Knowledge- Working without direct supervision
