Bromley Y is seeking a new Policy and Governance Lead.
Through this work, the role supports effective strategic decision making at Board and senior leadership level, enabling compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and strengthening the charity's voice in shaping policy that affects the communities we serve.

Role: Policy and Governance Lead
Salary banding (FTE): 5 (commensurate with experience)
Working pattern: 15 hours a week
Location: Bromley Y, in community settings and some home working

Main duties of the jobThe Policy and Governance Lead will play a critical role in contributing to high quality policy development and advocacy, helping to ensure the organisation maintains the highest standards of governance.
Through this work, the role supports effective strategic decision making at Board and senior leadership level, enabling compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and strengthening the charity's voice in shaping policy that affects the communities we serve.
The postholder will work closely with the CEO, senior leadership and trustees.

Our service is committed to providing support that prioritises prevention and delivers evidence-based interventions that are accountable and transparent to children, young people, parents and carers. Job responsibilities- Oversee compliance with charity law, company law, NHS/Local Authority governance, GDPR and the Charity Governance Code as required.
- Review all policies and procedures, ensuring all necessary policies and procedures are in place and are updated in a timely fashion.
- Manage policy review cycles and maintain a complete, up-to-date policy library.
- Attend the Policies and Procedures Committee meeting to drive policy review forward.
- Ensure governance processes meet Charity Commission requirements and reflect sector best practice.
- Provide strategic advice to the Chair, Trustees, CEO and senior leadership on governance matters and support Board administration.
- Maintain governance documentation, including policies, registers of interest, risk registers, and governance calendars.
- Champion a culture of good governance across the organisation.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant specialism.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, relevant to Policy and Governance in Charity Sector.
- Strong understanding of Charity Commission guidance (CC3, CC8, CC27, CC29), regulatory requirements, risk management, and board operations.
- Exceptional communication, judgement and organisational skills: confident at drafting, briefing, presenting and advising senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable working with trustees, CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
- Commitment to integrity, safeguarding and inclusive leadership.
- Sufficiently able to advise Trustees.
- Understanding of regulatory and political environments relevant to the charity's mission.
- Significant experience in governance or regulatory compliance within the charity sector, including advising boards and managing compliance.
- Experience Overseeing compliance with charity law, company law, NHS/Local Authority governance, GDPR and the Charity Governance Code as required.
- Familiarity with safeguarding governance, data protection, or NHS contractual framework.
- Experience in a charity undergoing change, growth, or strategic development.
- Experience with impact measurement for policy and advocacy work.
- Experience in policy research, public affairs, or external relations.
- Experience working directly with Boards or governance committees.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
