Job Description
The Role The Planning Insight Business Partner will work as part of a new team within the Strategic Planning department. This team will be focussed on using data and evidence to provide meaningful insight to aid decision making at all levels within the University.
The role holder will work closely with the University's Faculties, Institutes and Departments and Across the Strategic Planning Department to effectively interpret both internal and external data to drive improvements and identify best practice.
Appointments are normally made within 4 - 8 weeks of the closing date.

Key tasks for this new team include:
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake other duties as assigned by your line manager, commensurate with the role's grade.
Engage in university-level projects and initiatives as directed, and undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role, as assigned by the line manager.
Demonstrate flexibility by supporting colleagues during periods of high demand, including attendance at key university events such as open days and graduation ceremonies which may include weekend work.

- Through building better understanding and effective use of data across the University, improve the ability to deal with future challenges and the evolving needs of the University.
- Use a wide range of data sources to ensure that the University's course offering is attractive to potential students and is competitive within the market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake and provide meaningful analysis, interpretation and insight using a range of internal and external data sources.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of a number of academic subject areas to underpin the provision of relevant, meaningful and timely data insights.
- Work with departments and faculties to embed the use of data and insight into operational and strategic decision making.
- Work closely with Business Partners from other professional service functions across the University to fully support institutes and faculties to undertake change and achieve objectives and goals.
- Develop an extensive understanding of data sources external to the University to allow an effective horizon scanning function to identify future opportunities and challenges.
- Develop a suite of reports and/or visualisations designed to provide insight and monitor progress towards strategic goals.
- Using performance indicator metrics work with colleagues on improvement projects impacting all levels of the student experience.
- Work with departments and faculties to ensure subject course portfolios are responding to market demands, are attractive to potential students and are competitive within the market.
- Work with departments and faculties to develop ideas and initiatives to take advantage of new opportunities.
- Represent the Planning department, taking an active role at various meetings and events by informing and participating in discussions, securing commitment to progressing actions and keeping colleagues updated on meeting outcomes.
- Comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR requirements in all working practices maintaining confidentiality, integrity, availability, accuracy, currency and security of information as appropriate. Take personal responsibility for all personal data within own working environment.

Who you are - Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required Essential
- Educated to degree level in an analytical subject
- Experience in interpreting data to provide meaningful insight that is accessible to non-data specialists.
- Experience in the production of visualisations and dashboards to support the use of data insight
- Experience in promoting the use of data insights to inform and support continuous improvement processes.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships at all levels, across different departments and functions.
- An understanding of the need to handle and record data sensitively and in accordance with University and statutory regulations e.g. Data Protection Bill, GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
- Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge with experience of applying this to data analysis.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage a varied and demanding workload and meet agreed deadlines.
- Ability to compose concise and fit-for-purpose analysis and reports.
- Ability to organise and analyse complex data and information, and present it in a clear and concise format
- An excellent communicator both orally and in writing.
- An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.
- Further degree or specific qualifications in Mathematics or Statistics or Data Science (or related field)
- Experience of using data to refine and develop course portfolios.
- Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B2.
