Job Description

My Client Malvern Family Practice require a part-time Phlebotomist to provide a high quality venipuncture and blood sampling service for their patients. This post is temporary with the view to becoming permanent.

DUTES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide a full and comprehensive venepuncture and sampling service with due regard to procedures governing safe clinical practice, confidentiality, cross infection and Health & Safety and to show respect for the dignity and comfort of the patients at all times.
  • To provide an efficient and accurate sampling service on all patients
  • To be individually responsible for carrying our procedures for the labelling and recording of specimens ensuring accuracy and safe practice according to established protocols.
  • To have full working knowledge of blood collection tubes, forms and systems.
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the appropriate range of tests for each container and to ensure that appropriate blood volumes are collected.
  • To carry out additional procedures involving special tests according to standard operating procedures and the laboratory manual protocols.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team liaising with medical, nursing, administration and laboratory staff.
  • To communicate effectively with patients, parents and relatives
  • To understand and implement when required blood spill protocol and management of same.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of clinical equipment
  • Reporting faults in line with practice protocol.
  • Correct disposal and replacement of sharp bins in line with policies and procedures.

Essential Criteria

  • 4 GSCE's to include Maths and English And
  • Phlebotomy Certificate

Or

  • A minimum of 2 years relevant experience working as a phlebotomist
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience working in the NHS as a phlebotomist

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working in a treatment room environment in a GP surgery
  • Experience using EMIS WEB
  • 24 hour blood pressure setup
  • ECG
  • Minor Dressings
  • Suture Removal
  • Vitamin B12 injections
  • Written communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Approachable
  • Can recognise own personal development needs and set personal objectives

£16.37 per hour

20 hours pw - Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs 8.30am - 1pm
