Location: Berkshire
Hours: Part-time, flexible

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and engaging Philosophy Tutor to work on a one-to-one basis with an EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) student in Berkshire.

This is an opportunity for an exceptional educator who can provide high-quality, personalised Philosophy tuition within a flexible and supportive learning environment.

The successful tutor will be able to build a strong, trusting professional relationship with the student and create lessons that are intellectually stimulating, encouraging and tailored to their individual learning style, interests and academic goals.

The Student

The student has a strong interest in Philosophy and would benefit from working with a tutor who can foster their curiosity, encourage independent thought and help them develop their ability to construct and evaluate philosophical arguments.

The role will require a calm, patient and adaptable approach, with the ability to adjust the pace, structure and delivery of sessions according to the student's needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, personalised Philosophy tuition on an in-person one-to-one basis.
  • Develop the student's knowledge and understanding of key philosophical concepts, thinkers and arguments.
  • Encourage critical thinking, discussion and independent enquiry.
  • Support the development of essay-writing, argumentation and analytical skills where appropriate.
  • Plan and adapt lessons around the student's interests, strengths and learning objectives.
  • Establish a positive and consistent learning relationship with the student.
  • Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Liaise professionally with parents, carers and/or the wider education team where required.
  • Maintain appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.

About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a degree in Philosophy or a closely related subject.
  • Have experience teaching or tutoring Philosophy, ideally at GCSE and/or A Level.
  • Have experience working on a one-to-one basis with young people.
  • Be patient, empathetic and highly adaptable in their approach.
  • Be able to engage a student who may not thrive within a traditional classroom environment.
  • Have excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for Philosophy and education.
  • Be confident in developing lessons around a student's individual interests and academic aspirations.
  • Be reliable, professional and committed to safeguarding.
  • Hold, or be willing to undergo, the appropriate enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks.

What We Offer

  • A rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to an individual student's education.
  • Flexible, one-to-one teaching within an EOTAS setting.
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • The opportunity to develop a highly personalised programme of study.
  • A supportive professional environment.
  • The chance to work with a student who is genuinely interested in Philosophy and intellectual enquiry.

If you are an enthusiastic and experienced Philosophy educator who can combine strong subject knowledge with a warm, flexible and student-centred approach, we would love to hear from you.

You must have right to work in the UK.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
