Thisis an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest and successful TeachingHospitals in the UK with an international reputation and tradition ofinnovation.

Asa dedicated well established theatre suite, we consist of 4 theatres for avariety of specialties including Thoracic, Gynae Oncology, HPB and upper GI. Wealso carry out Robotic surgery in these specialities.

Thesuccessful candidate will be a Registered Practitioner (ODP / RN). Candidatesshould have broad based operating theatre experience, ideally includingknowledge of the clinical specialty, with a keen eye on developments within theservice. The successful candidate will demonstrate Leeds Way values and work inan open and collaborative way, empowering the team to provide the higheststandards of harm free care which is patient centred and fair to allstakeholders. The successful candidate will manage a diverse team ofthirty-five theatre practitioners.

Main duties of the job

TheTeam Leader will support the Matron in the delivery of theatre objectives andwill be responsible and accountable for managing capacity and staffingresources over the 24-hour period. The role will be 70% non-clinicalmanagement and 30% clinical management. The Jobholder will carry 24 hourcontinuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of theTheatre(s) and provide management and professional leadership for theperi-operative team. As a team leader you will continue to maintain clinicalpractice and there may be some requirement for weekend working if needed.

The jobholder is responsible for ensuringthe assessment of care needs and the development, implementation andevaluation of programmes of care are maintained to a high standard. The jobholder will manage the administrative and financial aspects of the Theatre(s)and will ensure cost effective use of resources and deployment of staff.Current services comprise four operating theatres. The role requires directmanagement of approximately 35 whole time equivalent Peri-operativePractitioners and support staff. The jobholder is responsible for thedepartment clinical budget

Job responsibilities

JOBPURPOSE

TheJobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective andefficient management of the department.Providing management and professional leadership for theperi-operative team. The jobholder is responsible for ensuring the assessmentof care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation ofprogrammes of care are maintained to a high standard. Managing the administrative and financialaspects of the department. Thejobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

Thejobholder will participate in mentorship and teaching programmes for multi -disciplinary groups within the department.

Thejobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-basedpractice, developing the peri-operative team and ensuring effectivemanagement of the department in the absence of the Matron / Theatre Manager.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development Willing to undergo training as necessary

  • Substantial Post registration Experience at Specialist Peri- operative Practitioner grade or equivalent.

  • At least 18 months at Band 6 or equivalent
  • Awareness of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines and policies.
  • Understanding of organisational structures.
