Posted 7 days 22 hours ago by BAR Technologies Ltd
BAR Technologies is at the forefront of innovative Marine engineering, specialising in the design, optimisation, and supply of decarbonisation solutions for the maritime industry. Born from the America's Cup, we utilise that cutting edge, fast paced development experience to create world leading products that redefine the industry.
With our expertise in wing propulsion, foiling and flight control systems, we are leading the sustainability revolution within the maritime and shipping industry. From reducing fuel consumption, measured by tonnes per day, in ocean going ships through our WindWings and advanced efficiency optimisation methods, to enabling the growth of marine electrification with the implementation of our foiling and FOSS solutions.
We are looking for a Performance and Simulation Engineer to join our team and contribute to this pioneering work. This is a key role for someone who thrives at the intersection of real-world engineering, simulation, and data science. You'll work closely with the commercial team, taking ownership of simulation data and engineering insights to shape the design and performance of our products-and communicate these both internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and interpret simulation data from performance studies, routing models, and CFD output.
- Develop and implement tools in Python for performance modelling, data processing, visualisation, and analysis.
- Design and automate visual outputs using libraries such as Plotly, Matplotlib, and Seaborn.
- Generate technical reports and tailored client presentations, articulating complex performance data clearly and effectively.
- Lead the development of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance models, working with simulation and design teams to optimise vessel and wing performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with control systems, design, mechanical, and commercial teams to drive innovative, multi-disciplinary projects forward.
- Continuously improve and maintain a library of visual templates and analysis workflows for performance reporting.
- Explore opportunities to integrate AI and machine learning into performance analysis, routing, and optimisation workflows.
- Stay current with the latest trends in data science, engineering simulation, and maritime decarbonisation technologies.
Skills and Qualifications Required
- Good degree in Engineering, or a similar STEM subject.
- Proficiency in python.
- Strong understanding of engineering logic, data analysis, and statistical techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of PowerPoint and general presentation building.
- Must be able to work within a close-knit team taking and giving instruction as appropriate.
- Committed to taking ownership of allocated tasks and determined to achieve challenging tasks and be self-motivated.
- Attention to detail, being accurate at all times.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Use of object-oriented programming.
- Exposure to AI or machine learning techniques for optimisation, forecasting, or automation.
- Background in aerodynamic or hydrodynamic performance engineering / CFD.
Opportunities for Growth
- This role offers the chance to become a well-rounded performance engineer-gaining hands-on experience across simulation, optimisation, data science, and sustainable marine technology. As you grow in the role, you'll be exposed to advanced programming workflows, applied machine learning, and cutting-edge maritime engineering challenges, with opportunities to lead projects and engage with clients.
What we can offer you:
- Be part of a forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of sustainability within the marine industry.
- Work in a small team where your contributions have a direct impact on project success.
- Collaborate with a group of passionate developers, engineers and industry experts in a supportive and innovative work environment.
