We're looking for a hands on Payroll Manager to lead our North West payroll team and ensure our people are paid accurately and on time. You'll manage weekly and monthly payroll across two businesses, support process improvement and help develop a small team within a wider national function.
So who are we?We're part of the APCL Group, with a 200 year history in UK shipbuilding. Our businesses include:
Cammell Laird a globally recognised shipbuilder and repair facility spanning 130 acres in Birkenhead and Neway, specialists in blasting, painting and project management for the marine and industrial sectors.
And what will you do?- Run end to end weekly and monthly payroll for hourly and salaried staff
- Ensure compliance across tax, NIC, pensions, statutory payments and deductions
- Submit RTI returns and issue P45s, P60s and P11Ds
- Maintain accurate payroll records and resolve discrepancies professionally
- Oversee benefits administration and ensure correct deductions
- Carry out payroll audits and reconcile PAYE, NIC and pension contributions
- Produce payroll and labour cost reports, identifying improvements and efficiencies
- Support and develop the payroll team through change and future proofing initiatives
- Strong experience in payroll operations, policies and UK employment legislation
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll topics clearly
- Highly organised, deadline driven and confident managing high volume data
- Strong Excel skills and experience with payroll systems
- High accuracy and attention to detail under pressure
- Problem solver with a calm, professional approach
- Payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP) would be great
