Job Description
Birchgrove Comprehensive School is seeking a compassionate, proactive and highly organised Pastoral Support/Attendance Officer to join our dedicated team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in supporting the wellbeing, behaviour, engagement and attendance of learners aged 11-
16. We are proud of our strong community ethos and commitment to ensuring that every pupil feels supported, valued and ready to learn.
Working under the guidance of senior staff, you will:
- Support the wellbeing, behaviour and progress of pupils through mentoring, monitoring and one to one or small group intervention.
- Contribute to behaviour management, restorative practice and emotional wellbeing support.
- Help pupils develop self esteem, life skills and the confidence to make positive choices.
- Build strong relationships with pupils and families, promoting engagement and positive communication.
- Play a key role in improving attendance and punctuality across the school, including data input, reporting and liaison with parents and the Education Welfare Officer.
- Support teaching staff by gathering information, monitoring pupil progress, contributing to action plans and maintaining accurate records.
- Assist with transition, learner pathways and wider wellbeing initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with external agencies to coordinate support for identified pupils.
- Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and the positive ethos of the school at all times.
- Has experience working with young people aged 11-16 in a pastoral, wellbeing, educational or youth setting.
- Can develop effective relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
- Understands child development, wellbeing needs and the barriers to learning.
- Can motivate learners, manage challenging behaviour and use restorative approaches.
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Is confident using ICT and able to maintain accurate data and reports.
- Shows empathy, patience, resilience and a commitment to equal opportunities.
- Is willing to register with the Education Workforce Council (if not already registered).
- Ability to develop systems, reports and impact data.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ/QCF for Teaching Assistants).
