Pastoral Care Officer

Pastoral Care Officer (SEMH School)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £150 per day

Date: Immediate

Contract Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with learners

Support pupils presenting with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours

Promote safeguarding, welfare, and emotional wellbeing at all times

Provide daily pastoral support addressing social, emotional, and physical needs

Supervise learners during breaktimes and lunchtimes

Act as part of an on-call pastoral support network throughout the school day

Liaise with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents/carers, and multi-agency professionals

Provide classroom cover when required

Support learner transitions, independence training, and reintegration

Implement first-day response strategies to promote positive attendance

Maintain a safe, secure, and inclusive school environment

Requirements

Previous experience working in a pastoral, SEMH, or behaviour support role

Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively

Strong communication and de-escalation skills

Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Right to work in the UK
