Job Description
Pastoral and Wellbeing Mentor - Recruitment Pack

We are a Trust of nine schools based in South East London, committed to ensuring that every child and young person in our care succeeds academically, socially and emotionally.

About the role

At Haberdashers' Crayford Academy, our Welfare team ensures that all students feel safe and are supported through any difficulties that they may be experiencing, both inside and outside of school. As a member of the Welfare team, the post holder will play a crucial role in safeguarding our students and in ensuring that, where there are concerns regarding a pupil's well being, the appropriate action is taken. This involves working alongside students, their families, colleagues in school and professionals from external agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work within and actively promote school policies and procedures by setting an example through professional behaviour.
  • Show respect for all members of the school community.
  • Liaise regularly with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Hub Leader regarding student welfare, attendance and matters of discipline, ensuring detailed evidence of actions and interventions for students is kept.
  • Act as the first point of contact for parents on all matters, passing on the content of the communication to the appropriate people and responding with prompt feedback.
  • Utilise data to monitor individuals, intervene as necessary, recommend rewards, sanctions and pastoral interventions, and work with Heads of Departments and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Oversee the pastoral care and behaviour management of students and support departments in carrying out and promoting the Behaviour Management policy.
  • Initiate, organise and assist with all school events and matters as appropriate.
  • Ensure that Form Tutors, Hub Leader and other staff are kept fully informed about all matters concerning the students in their care.
  • Attend professional meetings relevant to the job purpose.
  • Assist in escorting students on educational visits and participate in extra curricular activities as required.
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the Pastoral Team to actively support each other when necessary.
  • Implement Haberdashers' Aske's Federation/DFE child protection policy and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns related to a child's well being.
  • Liaise with school staff to initiate multi agency referrals for students.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up to date documentation on all safeguarding and child protection cases, and report where required.
  • Work directly with children in need and their families in the community to promote and strengthen the potential of parents/carers and their children, preventing children becoming looked after or suffering significant harm.
  • Work with identified target groups and their families to narrow the attainment gap.
  • Carry out any other duties or responsibilities as reasonably required from time to time.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of school and Trust policies and procedures throughout the school.
  • Attend staff briefings, meetings, training and inset days as required.
  • Work within the Academy framework with regard to health and safety.
  • Promote equal opportunities, the ethos of the Trust/Academy and the school's commitment to continuing professional development for all staff.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Trust's Safeguarding Policy.
  • Undertake any duties that may reasonably be required by the Executive Principal or Leadership Team.
