Part-Time Payroll and People Services Assistant

Unite Students have an exciting opportunity to join our fantastic People Team as a Payroll and HR Assistant on a part time basis in Bristol, ideally 20 hours per-week.
Reporting to the Senior Payroll Advisor, the Payroll and HR Assistant plays a key role in delivering a smooth, joined-up experience for colleagues across their employment journey.
The role helps create strong connections between People Services and Payroll, making sure information is communicated effectively, processed accurately and completed on time. By maintaining accurate data for joiners and leavers, managing queries effectively and supporting employee lifecycle activity, the role helps reduce avoidable contact, improve colleague experience and ensure colleagues are paid correctly first time.
What You ll Be Doing- Monitor and manage the shared inbox, ensuring queries are prioritised, appropriately assigned, and resolved within agreed service levels.
- Provide clear, accurate, and consistent guidance to colleagues and managers on People Services and Payroll processes and procedures.
- Act as a key point of contact between People Services and Payroll, facilitating timely communication and effective handovers to ensure a seamless service.
- Prepare reference letters, standard employment contracts, contractual change letters, and leaver documentation.
- Manage joiner and leaver activities, ensuring employee information is accurately recorded, updated, and processed within required timescales.
- Support the preparation and distribution of contractual change letters, leaver correspondence, and other employee documentation.
- Investigate and respond to payroll and People-related queries, escalating complex or sensitive issues to the appropriate teams when required.
- Support managers in following People and Payroll processes correctly, ensuring colleagues receive timely and accurate responses and outcomes.
- Maintain accurate filing, record-keeping, and data management practices in line with GDPR requirements and company standards.
- Consistently follow established processes and procedures to promote accuracy, efficiency, automation, and a high-quality employee service.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when handling employee and payroll-related information.
- A strong focus on providing excellent colleague service and resolving queries efficiently and effectively.
- Confident using technology, with the ability and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
