Overview

Veterinary Surgeon - Fridays in Islington, London. A first-opinion GP role to work one day a week (Friday) at a small clinic known for continuity of care. The clinic is located in Islington, with access to a nearby Hospital for complex cases and out-of-hours care. Weekly schedule includes Fridays from 9am to 7pm, with a 1-in-4 Saturday rotation at a branch and a 1-in-8 Sunday shift at the Hospital; up to two bank holidays per year. There is potential to expand hours (Mondays and Tuesdays) at a nearby practice in a non-sole-charge setting with a collaborative team.

Responsibilities
  • Work sole charge as a first-opinion GP veterinary surgeon on Fridays (9am-7pm); conduct consultations, perform minor surgeries, and handle occasional triage of emergencies.
  • Maintain continuity of care with a loyal client base; liaise with the regional manager and head vet for support; access a nearby Hospital for complex cases and after-hours care.
  • Participate in the scheduled rotation: 1-in-4 Saturdays at a branch and 1-in-8 Sundays at the Hospital; up to two bank holidays per year.
  • Collaborate with the team on expanding hours at a nearby practice if desired.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this 13-hour-per-week sole-charge role ranges from £19,000 to £24,375, depending on experience (equivalent to £57,000 to £73,000 FTE). Benefits include 6.6 weeks of annual leave (pro rata), private medical insurance with Bupa, up to £2,000 CPD budget per year, five days' paid CPD leave (pro rata), and relocation assistance if applicable.

Requirements
  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (Small Animal) with experience in first-option GP work.
  • Confidence and ability to make clinical decisions independently when in sole charge; strong communication and client-relations skills.
